Bedrooms Porto Ercole

Monte Argentario
is a promontory anchored to the main land by two cables, the thin Feniglia
and Giannella tombolos, which connected it only at the end
of the pre-historical age. Between Feniglia and Giannella there is a
third tombolo where the town of Orbetello is located. A bridge
connects this town to Monte Argentario. |

|
The two
main villages of the promontory are Porto
Santo Stefano on the north-east side and Porto
Ercole, the oldest village, on the south-east one. In
1577 the Argentario passes under the Spanish domination of Philip II,
who merges it into the State of the Presėdi. The region becomes
then an important military center, as proved by the imponent forts built
above Porto Ercole.

Located in a strategic
position for tourism and protected by the promontory of Monte
Argentario, the village of Porto Ercole still maintains
its charme and fascination along with the calm of the ancient small
villages. The old small harbor is dominated, in its nearest area,
by Forte Filippo and the Rocca, two
ancient fortifications which testify the "Stato dei Presidi",
the Spanish presence in the territory.

This is the place for some of
the best sand beaches, and also for visiting the historic sites of the
region's rich Etruscan and Roman past.
People flock to the shores of Porto Ercole for the sea
and the beaches. There are pebbly and rocky, with coves and
cliffs, as well as long sandy beaches. The beaches in Port
Ercole are clean and serviced, which means that you can rent beach
chairs and umbrellas. A popular beach spot is the strip of Feniglia,
between Porto Ercole and Orbetello.
